Author: chonny
Subject: 20572
Posted: 06 September 2008 at 10:45pm

well i only stopped wrapping vincent when he was 17-18 months old. so there we are. lol.

I kinda used to do it like in hte first clip but with the first wrap. i do mine real tight like she did & never folded the legs up & around as part of the wrap, but did often fold it up over the legs cos it looked cuter. lol. V always wore a hat to bed to keep his lil head warm. i found he would lie on his side & nto move either. midn you, the safety sleep helped. When i weaned him off the wrap, i contact the sleep store & started by only wrapping one arm. we also introduced the sleeping bag at the same time so it was a transition out of one into the other. worked really well.

Wrapping was fantastic for when V was in hospital last year as it meant he didn't try to pull his tubes out & meant he still had a safety around him that was familiar. i wouldn't go anywhere without his wrap. if i had his wrap & his dummy, i was safe to go ANYWHERE! now, it's his dummy & doggy (soft toy).

Sorry, i'm an absolute believer in wrapping. my best friend's first baby wasn't a good sleeper & i always reckoned it was due to not being wrapped. (she calims he would get out of it) This time i started wrapping her lil one as she wouldn't settle. now they wrap her every night as far as i know.

I used to wrap V even in hte buggy if it was sleep time. He knew what it meant & would usually go off easy as.

Then I learned (from Plunket) the Sheeza way which is kinda like the 2nd way but without including the head, and that's totally my favourite way to swaddle!

With Hannah, we used to wrap only one arm in as she was a finger suckler.

With not swaddling, between 6-9mos you wrap them looser and looser during the day until they end up unwrapping themselves by the end of their sleep. If they don't like it, keep swaddling a bit longer. Once they are happy with waking unwrapped and playing with their fingers etc, you can wrap them loosely at nights - and then not at all.
