So far so good, they went to bed no probs and I just went to check and they are both asleep in their beds so fingers crossed for a smooth night!

Emma - Rhyley has tried to climb out of his now - although he gets stuck 'on top' so there he is crying out with both knees on the top of the side holding onto the knob (yes I have an old 'illegal' cot that had bed knobs) so thinking I may have to move him earlier than planned into a bed. I am like you and not so keen. We've had regular wake ups during the night cause of this damn rain and wind and so frightened he will walk around the house - BUT what I though was to put the gate up on his door or the hall way just outside of his door (as we close the door.

So I wish you luck with the girls and will be watching/reading to see how its going.

Update time. I tried pinning the zips on their sleep sacks closed. It worked for two days. On the first day Sienna sat in her cot and sobbed "stuck, stuck" coz she couldn't get it undone. Today she broke the zip to get it undone and climbed out. Meanwhile, Mercedes has also learnt to climb out. Today she climbed out with her sack still ON! Talk about dangerous!

So I guess I have to bite the bullet. Beds it is. Good to hear that some of your wee ones have slept better since they went into beds coz right now their sleep probably couldn't get any worse (touch wood!). The sides come off their cots to make toddler beds so we'll start with that and see how we go. And yep, we have to do both at once. They don't cope if one does something without the other, they don't even like wearing different clothes.

aw that's a really tricky one, Emma      Ella was one of those kids who slept better in a bed than her cot, but then there's only one of her in the room and if she had a twin there I'd be pretty nervous about the idea too! Of course I have no advice apart from the chicken wire! Ditto what Amy said....Alyssa was never an escape artist either and wasn't really sleeping through until we moved her into a bed. I think her arms banging on the sides of the cot were often what woke her up. See if you can transition Sienna into the bed (rails off) while Mercedes is still in her own cot - since they are in the same bedroom. Then once Sienna is used to staying in bed (we hope) you can transition Mercedes. Not sure if it would make a difference to her being able to escape, but could you put her sleep sack on backwards or safety pin it so she can't take it off?

Oh gosh,..this is my worst nightmare! Fortunatly Isla hasnt learnt to escape yet, and she is finally sleeping through more often than not, in recent weeks, so will leave her in longer. Might be worth taking the plunge and it may just make a difference t their sleeping,...for the better I hope! Our boy never escaped but we moved him into a bed, he was not sleeping through when we moved him and as soon as he was in the bed he slept through. We thought he may have felt restricted in his cot.
I would give it a go, take the sides off and see how you get on. If she is climbing out then she will destroy the room if she wants to anyway - though I'm not sure what your best course of action would be on whether to do both cots / beds at once. Erin went into her big bed at 18mo though and was fine, I guess if you were really worried you could take all of the really exciting stuff out of their room until they settled in again? If it is any help to you, Elle has slept much better since we moved her.

In the last 1.5 weeks the longest she has been awake for is 30mins and that is a massive improvement on 5 hours!

Maya was in a bed at 20 mths, but then she was a much better sleeper than these hooligans. I can just imagine them destroying their room Plus I can't take Sienna's sides off and not Mercedes and Mercedes can't get out of hers - yet! It's only a matter of time before she copies Sienna...

My mum (who had 6 kids) always said a box with a hole for food and water was a good idea (and then when they reach teenage years you close the hole).

 

Seriously though I probably should have moved Michaela when she was about Sienna and Mercedes age.  She was waking up a few times a night banging against the side of her cot but I wasn't ready to move her and was worried that being in a single bed would make things worse.  I eventually put her in the single bed (a few months after I should have) and she started sleeping through again.

We haven't been there yet but I'd be inclined to take the side off if it was me & Gina. Sienna has figured out how to climb out of her cot. Well, actually she's been able to do it for a while, but now she's figured out how to take her sleep sack off which enables her to climb out.

Problem is she climbs out of her cot and into Mercedes cot and wakes Mercedes up. Mum reckons I should take the sides off her cot and start the bed transition but neither of them are sleeping thru on a regular basis so I am reluctant to change anything about their sleeping arrangements.

And on the one hand I think why take the sides off and make it easier for her to get out, but on the other I think if she can get out then I might as well take the sides off coz they aren't keeping her in.

What do you guys think?
