Had to gently explain that it didn't mean she was big enough to be a kindy girl yet. Very cute.

Bethany shared news all by herself at kindy on Monday - I had no idea it was coming so didn't get a chance to help her plan what to say, and she had no qualms about telling everyone about the Hairy Maclary book that granny bought her a month or so ago! So proud of her, she's grown so much in confidence in the last few months!! :-D

Glad you're enjoying the last few weeks of just having Charli-Rose, I'm sure she'll be completely smitten with her new wee sibling in no time :) I'm sure it can only get better after all that you went through last time! And even with PND, at least you are aware of the signs and etc. firsthand, so if it becomes an issue then it will be spotted and treated straightaway. I think you are absolutely amazing for choosing to give Charli-Rose another sibling in spite of how difficult it was with her and I'm sure that you'll decide that it was absolutely and totally worth it. Praying you all bond together sooo quickly and sooo tightly that you simply can't imagine life any other way :-D

If it's any help, even though I had an amazing birth with Bethany, I was definitely nervous leading up to Kaitlyn's birth, I think mostly because I knew too much about what was coming! But, like most worry, it eventuated to nothing. I hope the same happens for you x

(And remember, we're all here if you need to talk, so please let us help if we can ;-)

    Author: kmarie
Subject: 20030
Posted: 03 January 2012 at 1:12am

Ooh, I just realised that this will be the first post of the new year on this thread. So, HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone!!!

Wow I can't believe Dylan is nearly one Leanne! How time flies! Is he still clear for chicken pox? I hope so :S Hope you have a lovely time with your brother :)

We had a lovely Christmas with two very excited preschoolers and many many places to be at once for various meals. Was lovely seeing all the family a few times over, although the girls were thoroughly exhausted by Christmas night. We've followed that up with nearly 10 days completely at home (with Mike working between the stats) toilet training Kaitlyn. Who just so happens to be a star at keeping dry, am so proud of her!!! She also had her tongue tie laser surgery op a month ago (or so) and her speech has jumped ahead in leaps and bounds as a result, very exciting (made the trauma worth it as it was quite a full on experience for mummy who had to hold her down during the procedure. She was sedated so doesn't remember, but I sure do!).

Bethany is absolutely loving kindy, though was very ready for the holidays after her 8wk start to being a kindy girl. Her imagination and creative play has grown in leaps and bounds, and she absolutely loves drawing and writing - can write B, e, o, a, H confidently. She's going to love words like her mummy, I can already tell! Oh and she drew her first identifiable picture of our family about a month before Christmas so we did collage canvas paintings together with Kaitlyn and glued her pictures of grandparents etc. on top for them to unwrap for Christmas. And one of our family for daddy that we have proudly on the wall :) She's soooo curious about everything and comes up with the amazingest (I'm sure that's a word ;) comments and questions. On our way home from Christmas shopping: "Mummy, shopping is hard work, eh!" Then, "Our money is in lots of different places, isn't it mummy?" When asked what she means: "Because we give lots of different shops our money when we buy things." Priceless.

*hugs* to all, I'm looking forward to hearing of news of new babies before long! (My turn to live vicariously through others ;) Hmm, must go. Don't look too closely at the time of this post, I had far too much coke zero today then polished off practically a whole block of chocolate in front of a dvd tonight... for some reason sleep just isn't coming lol.

With having such terrible PND last time, they have great services down here that aren't anywhere else in NZ. We had been TTC for a little while and I thought "maybe we ARE meant to be in Tauranga?" so decided that that would be the last month we would try...then HELLO BABY hehe so it was definitely meant to be down here

it's so cute when they get excited about birthdays! we go to a coffee group where all the children are born within a month of each other and Charli is the youngest so she always gets soooo excited (and I get to steal party ideas ) Hope that Bethany has a great birthday

yay about dry nights :-) those sticker charts work magic hehe

with the two kid thing: I definitely don't plan to stop at 2 lol unless things are really hard this time round (PND wise) then I think it wouldn't be fair on my family to have more than 2. Do you think it's a time thing with Mike? Like he might change his mind later? Don't feel guilty though about wanting more. you ARE grateful for your two healthy girls, I can tell I think as long as you are, and you are respectful and sensitive if you have friend that can't have kids, then just go with what you are feeling. Some women are more than happy with two, some never even wanted the one they have and mistreat them, others can't imagine life without a rugby team full of children...there's no right or wrong.

If you had asked me 2 years ago there would be no way in hell I'd have another child again, but here we are with a very much wanted baby on the way. Maybe Mike will change his mind as the girls get a wee bit older, or finances get easier, and he sees how much it means to you. Just don't close the door to the idea, but try not to brood too much on it either. That'd be my advice anyway

Edited by mummytobesep08

    Author: kmarie
Subject: 20030
Posted: 10 September 2011 at 10:52pm

Wow, lots to catch up on! Glad pregnancy is treating you well (mostly!) Heather, Amelia & Becky. Hope you get your VBAC, Becky, that would be so neat!

That sounds like fun, Amelia. I'm still undecided for Bethany's... we might celebrate it the day before and have an afternoon tea here I think, as she's sooooo excited about her birthday (the build-up started from Daddy's birthday in April, then Kaitlyn's in May and mummy's in June and countless extended family birthday's since then...!). Have you decided to stay put in Chch? (Sorry if I missed that in a post :P)

Well, Bethany's temp finally came down that week after 3 visits to A&E. Still no idea why, although since then I've noticed she now has all her teeth... so maybe that's all it was. Kaitlyn stayed well from that bug but caught another, as they do! We were actually all well this week, apart from Kaitlyn being a bit fragile after her 15mth imms last week.

After doing so well with TT, Bethany went totally backwards and got terrified of the toilet. It made for a very challenging month of needing mummy's physical and emotional support every time she needed the toilet. I can only assume it was related to a) being worried that a poo might jump back out and eat her (!) or b) once the toilet roll holder fell off under her weight as she got on/off the toilet. It's been a looooong road, but just this morning she finally took herself off to the toilet again (we've reinstated the 'ducky' toilet seat with handles) and she's much happier. Oh yeah, and while a friend and her daughter were staying here for a week last holidays, I started a chart for Bethany. Every morning we checked and if she was dry, she got a sticker. If not, we said "maybe tomorrow!" By the end of four weeks she'd had 10 days straight with no night wetting, and has been in undies ever since! Very exciting, I'm so proud of her :-)

Random question... does anyone else have plans to stop at two (children, that is!)? I've been finding it hard as I would dearly love to have another child, but I've had to come to a place where I accept that Mike is not in a place where he'd like more, and financially we are very tight as it is. I've had a few low moments over it, which feels really awful, because I dearly love my two precious girls and feel so so so blessed that it seems wrong to wish for more, especially when some people can't have any children. I think I just hadn't realised how much I had 'planned' my life without thinking, simply by imagining it with 3-4 children. I feel like I have to undo all my dreams/plans and be happy to stop at two... when I should simply be content and awed that I HAVE two beautiful girls. Sigh, a woman's mind is hard to understand... sometimes I wish I wasn't so complicated lol! Anyone have any idea what I mean? Sorry for the ramble :P

Kaitlyn's chatting heaps and saying/doing new things all the time at the moment which is absolutely gorgeous. I think Bethany is struggling a bit with her sister being in the limelight, I feel like I'm having to constantly be on top of her behaviour at the moment. We've started a chart and she's really responding well - it's become a tangible way to teach her the 'right' thing to do. Kaitlyn of course has to get in on the action too :) Bethany is so protective of her (in the same breath as throwing herself on top of her so they both tumble to the ground :S) and they dote on each other.

Sorry for the long post - and for if I missed anyone, hugs to all, it's been so long! xx

Edited for typos :P

Edited by kmarie

And DH slept through his alarm as he is unwell too. So had a good lie in this morning. DH and Isla still in bed together now, so i am getting some real peace and quiet.

Catriona didn't have reflux - think Isla's problems stem from being forced out four weeks early!

Saw the funniest thing yesterday - I was coming out of a shop when this man suddenly rushed past me almost knocking me over, and started shouting 'Hey! Stop! Stop!' after these two women who had just left the shop. So i thought i was about to see someone done for shoplifting, but turns out one of the women had picked up this man's daughter and walked off with her. She had the same top and same dark hair as the daughter of the other woman and the friend hadn't realised that she had picked up the wrong kid. This man was going 'that's my daughter! that's my daughter!' and this women looked down at her friend and saw she already had her own daughter with her. Ha ha - she looked well embarrassed. makes you realise how easy it could be for someone to walk off with your kids though, so scary in a way too.

Been a challenging couple of months as far as bugs go, we seem to be passing bugs around constantly. I think we've had one full week of no-one sick since May. Ah well, them's the breaks. Oh, and both my girls are currently gluten free, as I was concerned with the frequency and duration of sore tummies with Bethany. Since then, her #2s haven't been difficult for her at all, phew. Kaitlyn still struggles with food like banana, so I haven't dared introduce gluten yet.

Leanne, sounds like a rollercoaster ride with Dylan :S Interesting with Ethan and grommets - hopefully you'll notice a huge change!

Love to all xx

Good luck for the grommets, I'm sure it will go well Hope things keep improving for wee Dylan too

Heather, yay that's excellent timing then! Bub-to-be must have known

I think the baby-fairy has been generous to us lonely Sep 08 mums as we are pregnant again too Still early days (about 7 1/2 weeks) but we had a scan to check on things and bubs looks perfect, in the right spot and a strong wee heart beat, so the MW says it would be very rare to lose her now. So exciting! edited to add: according to Charli-Rose, the baby is most definitely a girl and look out if DH or myself suggest otherwise hehehe

This means we are gonna try stay in chch til a few months after bubs is born as it's gonna be a bit much I think, trying to move while pregnant and starting over somewhere new. Gotta be a c-section this time too so I'll probably need a bit of support and DH wouldn't have any annual leave in time if he got a new job, so looks like we're staying put for a bit

Edited by mummytobesep08

We don't often have accidents unless Alex is to busy doing something and just forgets. He still doesn't say he needs to go but now he grabs himself which works well when your watching him or I still just make him go every so often.
I think you all know but I am so excited to announce that finally no 2 is on the way! We had just gone back for our first appointment with FA and had some more answers and so were about to start Clomid treatments when that very month there was already a wee one in there. I have had a couple of spotting scares and so am rather nervous this time around but keep telling myself I need to have more faith that its all good as it really is. There is a little peanut with a heart beating just doing its thing in there (we had a scan last week). So 2012 will be the year of nappies again Lucky for me Beau is off from the 27 Dec to the end of Feb so should be home for everything (unless we go early again) so that is great as otherwise he would have only had his normal 3 weeks off as its a bit hard to just come home from work. Right I better get off an decide what we are doing today. It's Beaus last day home before he heads back to work so we normally spend it just the 3 of us

    Author: Lea455
Subject: 20030
Posted: 30 April 2011 at 10:00pm

Congratulations Becky, how exciting having twins and it will be a good age gap having a 3 year old and two babies.

I started toilet training Ethan last week and at first he was quite keen on sitting on the toilet and by day 6 had done a wee in the toilet although still hadn't told me he needed to go so were changing the pull ups just as regularly as if there were normal nappies. He is able to say the word toilet as repeated it when I taught it to him along with the baby sign (ear pulling) so that was encouraging as he is still quite behind with his speech although has improved heaps lately, saying several two word phrases now. Yesterday afternoon however Ethan threw a wobbly and refused to sit on the toilet and did the same today so I've given him a day off and am going to try again tomorrow but if he still refuses then I guess he's just not ready yet and I'll put him back in nappies until later in the year.

Dylan has entered a new level of alertness and thinks that now he is 3 months old he doesn't need to nap, he was up until last week really good at self settling for his naps although never at night time but now he doesn't want to self settle for any sleeps and after several attempts I end up feeding him to sleep! Apart from this, hes doing really well, sleeping 9 hour stretches some nights and is doing lots of "talking" at the moment, its very cute to listen to. I'm definetely enjoying this stage of babyhood a lot more the second time around being more relaxed!

Hopefully Alex outgrows the biting phase soon. Ethan hasn't shown signs of doing this although one of the kids at his preschool bit him the other day.

You will be pleased Amelia that Charli-Rose sleeping is returning to normal.

Ethan is making progress all the time with his fine motor skills and speech, hes saying a few two word phrases now, "this way" and "lets go" being two of his favourites, I think I say them quite a lot. I've decided to start toilet training him at Easter - I took your advice Kristy to wait until Dylan is 3 months which he will be next week! Hopefully he is a fast learner but will just have to see how it goes. I think Dylan must be going through the 12 week growth spurt at the moment, hes only managing 30 minutes naps today, very frustrating!

In our coffee group we've noticed that all the boys have hit the phase around 2 1/2 where they get a boost of confidence and aggression and the plunket nurse said that happens with boys as they get a kick of testosterone, which is often why biting and hitting and stuff comes up as an issue round this time.

Well things are getting back to a 'new normal' here in chch. I can't believe Dylan is 2mths old Leanne - must be that long since I was last on here!! Interesting about Ethan & dyspraxia. I had a dyspraxic boy in my first classroom, it was fascinating (and yet challenging at times) to work out how his brain worked and teach him accordingly. It sounds like ppl around you are on-to-it as far as help, great to hear that an OT & speech therapist are on board.

Lol, 'gentle' is a key key key word in our house too! I can't believe how fast Kaitlyn is growing, I feel almost sad to see my baby growing up already. As of last week, she's now on the move commando style and that seems to have helped with the interaction between them. Bethany just doesn't seem to know her own strength sometimes! It was so sweet seeing her get protective of her lil sis at playgroup the other week.

Amelia - Bethany is touch-&-go toilet trained. She has a week or so of no accidents then 'forgets' for a day or so (or more) and will even do #2s in her undies. Not fun. We tried undies overnight but after a week of 2 loads of washing every day just of bedding, she's back in nappy pants at night time. She wasn't waking when she wet, so by the time morning came EVERYTHING was thoroughly soaked. I decided I'd rather she slept in & stayed dry than started waking once the weather got colder!

I absolutely love seeing what new things my girls come up with every day. Kaitlyn is saying all sorts of words/sounds and a few signs, and Bethany is a wonderful mini-mummy when it comes to helping her learn new things. So cute. It's amazing how resilient babies are - things that should upset Kaitlyn (like a face full of water in the bath or a thump on the head with a toy) make her crack up!! Better than the opposite lol.

Love to chch mums, I can't even imagine what you've been through, it must be so hard. I hope you and your loved ones are all ok.

Must go...
Kristy :)

Edited for typos :P

Edited by kmarie

    Author: Lea455
Subject: 20030
Posted: 18 March 2011 at 11:02am

Hi everyone, what is everyone up to these days?

This year is going very fast, Dylan is 8 weeks old today and Ethan is nearly 2 1/2 already which means of course hes halfway to 3, seems like yesterday he was a baby! I have come to the conclusion that Ethan has Dyspraxia a condition that affects his ability to learn new things but has no impact on his intelligence. We have an occupational therapist coming to see us once a month to work on his fine motor skills and coordination and are on the waiting list to see a speech therapist. Hes says lots of words but hasn't begun to string them together into sentences yet and a lot of the words he does say are all mixed up, eg instead of grape he says brape and van comes out at man, my sister in law who is a speech therapist herself (and has offered to help if we don't get seen soon) thinks that his muscle control is lacking so he doesn't form words properly, he probably thinks hes saying them correctly.

Other than this, Ethan is doing really well although we are getting a few toddler tantrums and I am getting tired of telling him to be gentle to his brother (pulling arms and legs, sitting on him as soon as I've put him on his change mat or blanket). Distractions such as the TV, reading books and suggesting other things he could do only work for a short time and it doesn't help that Dylan cluster feeds in the evenings so he's up for several hours in a row. DH has been getting home late from work lately so is not always around to distract Ethan. Has anyone else with two littlies experienced this and how long did it last for, some days are better than others but some days I get rather frustrated especially when a happy baby starts crying because Ethan has yanked his arm/leg too hard!

Otherwise hes a great feeder (latched on straight away) and sleeps well when he does go to sleep and is starting to be more alert, is very cute and cuddly. He is a good sized baby but at a pound and a half lighter than his brother seems tiny to us. I'll be putting up some photos on my facebook page soon so if you want to have a look, pm your name if you are on facebook and I'll add you as a friend.

Ethan adores his little brother, is always kissing him and touching him, I just have to watch that he isn't too rough (not intentionally of course).

Edited by Lea455

I'm already 3 - 4 cm dilated and as a result of her examination my show came on. Mw thinks theres a very high chance I will be having my baby today/tomorrow. The internal left me feeling a bit crampy so I think I'm having contractions about 15 minutes apart as cramp seems to intensify slightly but not 100% certain, just had another one so if I get one more in 15 mins time, I think I might just need to ring mw, DH and my Brother and Sister in Law (who are going to look after Ethan)! I have a text buddy in the Due in Jan 2011 forum so anyone who wants to lurk in that forum over the next few days feel free, otherwise I'll update you when I'm back home!

At the moment Bethany thinks she has a right to anything that Kaitlyn is playing with, and Kaitlyn thinks that anything anyone even considers holding while walking past her should belong to her... makes for some interesting altercations to say the least!!

Not long now Leanne, you must be excited to meet your little one! Lol bout Ethan 'helping' the scan lady!! Just a thought on TT - my SIL's plunket nurse recommended to her that you don't try training until baby #2 is older than 3mths, cuz that's when you've got more of a routine and feeds aren't quite as often etc. Otherwise #1 may work out that the best time to say they need the toilet is every time you sit down to feed bubs or change bubs or put bubs to bed... you get the idea! Anyway, I found that tidbit very helpful myself so thought I'd pass it along :)

Must be interesting to watch the two different personalties developing. I like your "sit on the spot" idea. We have tried sending Ethan to sit behind the couch when he is naughty but he thinks its a game! Haven't started TT yet due to the immenent arrival of No 2 but plan on encouraging him once bubs is around a month old and I am getting used to the new routines of having two little ones.
Now that I've finished work and Christmas is over, the last few weeks of this pregnancy are going very slow, thankfully I am keeping well although feeling very uncomfortable due to bubs being well engaged and the hot weather we've had lately. The final countdown is on now though, I have a maximum of two weeks to go as I'm to be induced on or very close to my due date. Had a scan today and bubs is just an average size (at least thats what the scan lady thinks, Ethan was very curious about the computer she was using and pushed a button at the wrong time which mucked up one of the measurements, she only just managed to prevent him from pushing another button that would have wiped all the data she had collected up to that point!). However, my mw doesn't want to risk bubs getting really big like Ethan did by going overdue so this time I can def say that baby should be born within the two weeks!

    Author: kmarie
Subject: 20030
Posted: 05 January 2011 at 9:12pm

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year all!

Can't believe how fast both my girls are growing. Currently toilet training Bethany, first accident-free day today, woohoo!! Kaitlyn loves her solids but I'm still ultra careful of what I give her cuz she still has regular bouts of constipation poor thing. Haven't really given her any finger food yet, though I'm sure she'd love to gnaw on something I just haven't figured out what lol. Having them in the same room works great some nights and not so great other nights - thank goodness for the portacot set up permanently in the tv room! :)

Kaitlyn has just worked out rolling and beelines for anything she shouldn't have. Definitely in no hurry for her to figure out any other way to move yet!! I think I had it easy with Bethany, she was always content to sit there and find new ways of playing with old toys for ages.

Amelia, I've taken to leaving a window wide open in the girls' room until I go to bed too but Bethany reacts to insect bites and had a badly inflamed one recently so must figure out a way to stop them from eating her! Wow no wonder you're so proud of Charli's TT, that's amazing!!

Glad to hear Bethany's not the only one who won't poo in the toilet/potty. Will be interested to see how long it takes before she can tell me she needs wees - at the moment I'm asking all the time and putting her on the toilet. Funny thing is yesterday at one point I did that and she did a little one then got off the toilet and 5mins later was standing in a massive puddle! Lol. And yep, still in pullups to go out, though had her in undies at my SIL (she's been through TT with her two girls so didn't mind wet floors... fortunately lol!)

Leanne can't believe how close you are now!! Lol to typical 2yr old behaviour, so true!

Heather glad you had a lovely Christmas. Bethany's going through a hitting/biting/bugging other children phase too. Not all the time, but esp when she's tired. Poor Kaitlyn cops the brunt of it!! Usually we'll give her one or two warnings, then the next time she does it we have a 'spot' that she has to sit on (just a piece of that non-slip mat you buy from the $2 shop, cut to a rectangle that fits her bottom on it). I normally put it somewhere I can see her but away from toys etc. If she fusses/screams/grizzles/cries, I tell her I will come and talk to her when she has stopped, and is sitting up properly. Can take a while (recently the noise has been exhausting, so if I do it at home, I'll move her to her room on the spot and shut the door if she won't calm down quickly enough. I tell her that mummy doesn't need to hear the noise and I will come once she's waiting quietly.) Followed of course by the usual pep talk, then an apology to whoever needs one. I've started carting one around in my handbag too, it's come in handy a few times. She responds faster now that she knows we're serious too - and calms down quicker once the spot comes out :) Not sure if that's any help. We're also planning on making some 'family rules' soon and putting together a lil star chart or something so she can 'see' the results of her good behaviour/bad behaviour. A trip to the park will prob be the incentive once she gets 10 stars or something like that. I'm big on giving the reasons behind doing that kind of thing though - our bigger picture is that God asks us to show people that we love them and look after the things we've been given, and He has asked mummy and daddy to teach Bethany how to do the right thing. I always try to come back to that when doing any kind of discipline. Eek sorry for the essay!!

ETA - love your new handle First! Glad to hear TT isn't always a quick process lol. We just leave the window open until we go to bed, but it doesn't always help. Bethany drinks copious amounts of water at night from her drink bottle too - thus we are definitely in nappies overnight for a bit longer yet! We've also left the fan in there a few times until we go to bed and that seemed to make a diff.

Edited by kmarie

The day seemed to go by very fast, Ethan was very spoilt of course.

I just had to share with you typical two year old behaviour. I took the tree down today and asked Ethan to help me pull the decorations off (which I thought he would love to do since he has been pulling them off anyway) but since he was allowed to do it he walked across the room and started playing with his toys and wasn't interested in helping at all!

I'm glad to get to the end of 2010, a year which had a m/c, wedding (my brothers), becoming pregnant again and my Mum passing.

Happy new year everyone.

Our new thing though is he can undo the carseat I have never known a kid who can and I thought they would be a bit tougher for them to undo but no it's so easy for him.

Again hope you all have a wonderful day tomorrow! I am so excited about playing santa tonight when Alex is in bed. I can't wait to see his face tomorrow morning when he comes up and sees all the presents

Hope you all have a great day

DH works in retail so for Charli and I, December and the New Year are quite lonely as he's working so much but at least we'll have lots of time hanging out in the heat oh and playing with her new toys!

Lea how are you going in the heat? I've never been pregnant during summer- it must be uncomfortable.

Oh Heather, I saw your post at the bottom of the last page. How is Alex going with his hitting now? I don't have any ideas with it, we struggle with Charli and her hitting/kicking too. We've won the battle against biting but for some reason the same strategy doesn't work for hitting/kicking!

With Daniel- do you guys have a routine and are sticking to it? Charli-Rose found it hard soon after daylight saving (going to sleep later, getting up earlier ) but we found keeping a window open in her room, then going in later, kept it cool and also putting her to bed anyway even if it was light and, as long as she stayed in her room, not worrying if she talked or read for a bit.

In saying that, I am the last person who you should take sleep advice from lol! Coming up 4 months since the Earthquake and I can count the nights she's slept through on one hand Everyone says it's not us doing anything wrong though, it will just take time.

Oooo my Xmas mince pies are ready- yum! Once again, I hope you all have a great Christmas. It will be so fun this year with the toddlers being that much older and understanding more!
