Do you want it to pay for ops and Gp visits perscription chagres or just the ops. The ops only are often cheaper. Also something to bear in mind is ING medical policy covers things that Pharmac doesn't fund but are approved for use in NZ e.g. the 12 month herceptin course if you have breast cancer. Compare all comanie and then see what suits you. Cheaper isn't always the best option.

None of them will cover infertility testing or anything like that.

I'm with southern cross and have UltraCare 400 plan it covers all the basic stuff, plus surgery and hospital cover, plus $400 dental and $400 optical per year. They also offer $1250 for Obstetrics after 3 years cover.

If you don't wear glasses and aren't interested in dental than I'd probably look into their normal ultracare packages. If you don't go to the doctor very often you could just get their surgery and hospital plan - not sure what it's called but if I were you I would definitely make sure you are covered for surgery and specialists at the very least. Speaking from experience I have already had 1 surgery and am about to have another and its much faster than the public system and having my choice of specialist and hospital was great. For my gallbladder surgery, because my insurance is through a work package all pre-existings were covered so I got my health insurance in August, had my surgery in September and got the letter from public for an appointment with a specialist in November.

Anyway, if you are planning a family I would probably choose their ultracare base package or one of their new wellbeing plans, but I would say your best bet is to go their website and have a look at their plans and get a free quote.
