Author: Maya
Subject: 19471
Posted: 25 July 2008 at 1:34pm

We used Avent with the gremlins, and using Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature with Chiara but only so we can distinguish between their bottles and hers.

The formula calculations don't really apply to breastmilk as formula is much denser, a lot of formula fed babies have bigger, less frequent feeds whereas breastmilk fed babies tend to need feeding more frequently as it digests faster.

At Jayden's age the gremlins were taking approx 80-100ml per feed and feeding 3 hourly so around 8 feeds a day. I would start off with a smaller amount then give them more if they finished it so as not to waste any of my precious breastmilk!

Hope that helps. I express fed them for 10 weeks coz they wouldn't latch. If you are keen to get him back on the breast tho it might be worth asking your m/w for a referral to Plunket Family Centre, they are great with helping get feeding sorted coz you go there for the whole day and they observe and help you to latch at each feed.

BTW Gina was a fast drinker too and some amount of spilling is OK. We got some slow-flow teats for Emma when we got discharged from hospital and those drove me mad - it took her hearly 1.5-2 hours to finish a feed!!! We switched to the Tommee Tipee ones very quickly.
As for volume, I thought it was 180ml per kg up until they are 6 months old - maybe this is just for premmies? At the end of the day, they'll eat as much as they want - we offer Emma 150ml each feed and she normally has 120ml
Good luck expressing and feel free to PM me - I feel like an 'old hand' at it now - have been going for 10 months combined

Around that age Chloe was drinking around 60mLs per feed, sometimes more.

Does he skull back a whole bottle at once? I had to stop Chloe and burp her 2-3 times in between to get most of it to stay down... that way she had less wind and didn't get the milk too fast either.
