His speech is coming along nicely and i'm confident he'll be up tp speed by the time he starts school. Although he seems ready, he still seems little to me!

    Author: peanut butter
Subject: 19299
Posted: 21 September 2011 at 11:47am

Ok ladies, Archie Donald arrived last Thursday....here is his birth story.

So, trying to remember it all.

It was a niggly pregnancy with niggles starting on and off from 35 weeks. I was trying not to get too excited as I have always gone over wtih my previous pregnancies so was expecting at least 41 weekst his time to.

Monday 12th...nothing happening but saw MW for a routine check. She did a stretch and sweep and told me I was 1cm dilated, still with a thick cervix but that it was very soft. Had a very crampy day that day.
Tuesday 13th...woke after a rough night with contractions. They werent too intense but some of them I did have to breathe through. Really thought things were about to start and was absolutely gutted when we woke in the morning and NOTHING was happening. In fact I felt pretty good. Best in a while.
Wednesday 14th...another night of contractions...., another morning with nothing. Later that day (after whinging that nothing was happening) I started to lose my plug...this got me very excited as I had never lost a plug before and I was quite fascinated. Was all crampy and spent a fair bit of time bouncing on a swiss ball. Texted Shane in the afternoon telling him not to be late, I felt things were about to kick off.....of course they DIDNT!

Thurs 15th Wed night I had the most contractions and some of them took some concentrating through. They carried on through most of the night but stopped in the wee hours of the morning. I was gutted and highly pissed off....getting very tired now. DH decided to stay home that day and made me call my MW. We were going to catch up the next day for a CTG to see if anything was happening but decided to do it that morning instead. I met her over in Alex at 10.30. She put me on the CTG which didnt show any of my contractions even though I was getting them whilst there...they were about 12 min apart. She did an internal and said my cervix was still 1cm but thin now and she stretched me to 2cm..ouch!!!That day I slept, bounced, walked hoping to get baby to drop down. He ( I can say that now) had turned his head from a sideways position to straight on which impressed the MW. He was still only at -2. As the afternoon went on I started getting really strong contractions. They stopped me in my tracks but I could breathe through them. I withdrew to our bedroom as I ddint want to labour in front of my mother in law and I didnt want the boys to see me. At about 5pm I phoned my MW to say they were getting more regular (9min apart lasting about a min) and that I would get the boys off to bed and then we would come over. They STOPPED!!!! At this point I had had it!! I was bawling my eyes out in our room. MW had commented that there was no way I could be in labour as I sounded too calm but she did agree that its hard to tell over the phone. DH came up to find me. I was telling him that I can make them all go away by concentrating so the contractions were all in my head. I also told him I had had enough and was not going to have this baby EVER! I was so over it.We had a good "discussion" and finally he rang MW who was starting to worry that we hadnt come over. She agreed to see us again so Shane made me get in the car with our bags packed and head over to Alex once more. The conttractions started up in the car and were about 5 min apart..and getting a little more intense. MW did an internal at 8.30 and said still 2cm, membranes tight against babies head and CTG showed irregular mild contractions...even though I felt I was going through the roof with one of them). I burst into tears as I just couldnt take this on off thing anymore. She advised me that it was still pre labour and to go home and have a hot bath to slow things down so I could have a sleep. We got back out to the car and I completlely broke down. Then on the way home (its a 30km,20min drive) the contractions took themselves up a notch..or two!! I was struggling to get through them.
We turned into Cromwell and I made DH pull over for one as I couldnt tolerate the driving whilst contracting. I was getting into a right state at this stage wondering how I was going to manage REAL labour if I couldnt handle "pre labour". We turned into our street and I got one in the driveway, one in the garage, one 2 steps into the hall way etc etc. DH asked if I thought I might be in transition. I replied with "how can I be, I am only 2cm" .He ran me a bath, I got in and had one there...I couldnt get comfy, I couldnt move, they were so intense. At this stage DH rings MW back...she can hear me in the background and commented that I sounded like I was 7-8cm...until I said "I bloody well wont be". She told him that I needed to come back to Alex but maybe to time them for another half hour and see what was happening. I knew in my heart that she needed to come to me but I just couldnt talk at that stage. DH diligently started timing my contractions...that pissed me off..LOL

This was them
9.47pm 51sec
9.49pm 29sec
9.51pm 1min
9.53pm 42 sec
9.56pm 1min
9.59pm 40sec
10pm 47sec
10.02pm 11sec
10.04pm 33sec
about this stage I think I was screaming at him to stop timing the bloody things and he was on the phone to MW saying I cant be moved she needs to come to us. I was starting to need to push.

I was upstairs in our bedroom kneeling on the floor over the side of the bed...I had so much pressure I was pushing with all my might to relieve it when I broke my waters...I thought I had wet myself but the relief was immense. Then shortly after I realised I was pushing a baby out....I actually felt calm as I realised what was really happening. DH had hung up from MW and was on phone to 111. I reached down to feel for myself and couldnt feel anything but noticed blood on my fingers. I made DH check and he couldnt feel either... Next push I felt the head come down...DH checked and told me it was just mucous...my arse it was. At that stage the operator told DH to get me onto the floor on my back as it was the safest way to deliver. I argued but had no choice...I guess its the safest way to "catch" baby. I pushed with alll my might..worried for a spilt second about ripping myself apart and then decided I could handle any of that but I needed to get the baby out. And next second I felt the head come out and I was about to say "check the cord and I think you need to help turn the head" when the body flew out straight after..OMG that felt SO GOOD!!!!!

DH lifted baby up and I saw he was a boy, then I quickly said , pass it between my legs and we covered him up with a towel. At that point the doctor arrived...to birth the baby. He was a colleague from the medical centre I worked at and I was actually relieved to see a familiar face. He was suprised when we showed him the baby born...so he then got to work on the placenta and a few minutes later I birthed that. Ambos turned up next and helped clamp the cord and cut it....then MWs turned up...with huge smiles ( I remember the smiles) and they helped me onto the bed, gave me the synto injection, checked baby out etc. I had a 0.5cm 1st degree tear and was going to get a suture until the MW checked again and it was already closing up! He was born about 10.20pm.

We had cuddles, fed, discussed it over and over and then I had a shower in myOWN shower..heavenly. I felt great, I had so much energy and wasnt sore in the slightest. It was magic. T had woken up during the pushing stage and had been onthe couch with Grandma and she bought him up to meet his brother...awwwwwww.We then trasnfered to the birthing unit for some recovery time.

So I think I made the birth story longer than my labour!

We went there for a visit today and it's really cool, well at least I think so, and Jaymie did too.
Jaymie is in kindy 9am-3.30pm four days a week now, and she loves it. It has really helped her come out of her shell. I am loving seeing her growing up and becoming a gorgeous, empathetic and loving individual. Still no inkling from DH and I to have another child, we feel so content with our little family.
How is everyone else?

I just can't believe how fast life seems to be taking past, just think it does not seem that long ago since our 3 year olds were babies. I was looking at pics last night with Lachie and he took great delight in telling me how cute he was - "I think I was cuter than Tessa Mum" it never ceases to amaze me what they come out with. Playcentre starts again on Monday - we are all hanging out for it!
Al feeling fine, baby is all good, good position etc etc, I had a wee melt down at the midwife today, I am just really anxious about the birth etc, my hormones have me all over the place!
She thinks I will go early but I don't want to get my hopes up - Lachie was on time and Tess was a week early. Have been getting lots of Braxton hicks but other than that nothing major .
Will let you know when this one decides to grace us with its presence!

Great to hear that you are progressing well too Jessica. Great that Jett is coming along well with his speech. I have been wondering about an SLT for Jaymie too, but after reading the literature that I have been given, it seems that she is within the normal range. She talks heaps in fact never stops, it's just that I have to be the translater as most people only understand bits and pieces of what she is saying. But now I have a few tools to help her I will just keep and eye on her for the next 3 months and see how we go.
My Sydney/Melbourne trip was lovely, although I did miss DH and Jaymie of course.
We have done alot of caravaning over the Christmas holidays which has been fantastic. Five days in Rotorua, six days in Whiritoa, a night at Murawai, three more nights at Whiritoa, a night in Ohakune. Lots of fun, and on our travels we found another caravan so we upgraded.
Just the one child for us and we are more than happy with that decision. We had two embryos on ice but gave Fert Associates permission to let them go about a month or two ago.

It's been awhile since I've looked in on this thread. Gosh, lots more babies than when I first joined up here! Very exciting to look to at the pictures and try and work out who's who!

My daughter Cathy is 3 and a half. Tall for her age, talking well and is just now starting to get the hang of toilet training. My fault as I had her in pullups for ages hoping she would tell me when she was ready. Transferred her into knickers and wouldn't let her wear her pullups and she just clicked. Still the occassional 'wee' accident but goes poos in the toilet everytime. Have not done anything about nighttime toilet training, just celebrating daytime successes.

Just the three of us, no other kiddies as yet. Not going to let it do my head in. Nice to read the catchups and will attempt to write a hello or two more often.

I actually had a couple of great choices. The MW I had postnatally is lovely and has offered to see me again but even though I would have her in a heartbeat she isnt really coming across to Cromwell (She's Wanaka based) and would only be doing it as a favour to me. So I am going with a MW that works at the medical centre I also work out. She is VERY professional, thorough and works well alongside the specialist that I want to use too. I had a brief chat to her yesterday about it all and she recommends I birth in Dunedin and see an OB too. Phew!!!

You are lucky your two play nicely. Mine do to an extent but Tom usually ends up in James' face, jumping on him, tackling him etc and I am forever pulling them apart.. Mind you James provokes a lot of it. Boys!

The birthing centre here now has a birthing pool, rather than just the bath so I am hoping that a water birth may make things a little easier.
Am really enjoying both of the kids, such characters and I love seeing them playing together - usually nicely.
Lachie is all sorted with TT, nighttime really surprised me, just said he didn't need nappies and that was that, 2 accidents in the last three or four months. He has got quite clingy recently, which he has not been before so I am guessing now that he understands more and it is probably tied up with baby coming. But I love the conversations and the things that he comes out with
Tessa is a crack up, but I have discovered what tantrums are like - something Lachie never did, she is the princess of throwing herself on the floor - DH blames it on her being female! She is my blue eyed girl with curls - totally her fathers daughter.
I hope that you have a smooth preg Nikki, what are you going to do in terms of MW etc - after last time?

Glad to hear Bree is doing well!

Well, Kylahs birthday was a hit, cant believe i have a three year old.

As you are all probably aware I left my partner a couple months back. Been long and hard and I still miss him like crazy but I know I have done the right thing.
I am struggling with him and seeing Kylah, he still cannot yet see past him and me, and see that she is more important. He is all about hurting me and so far its only hurting Kylah. I have just got lawyer and I am hoping that will make him wake up and see what is best for her.

I handed in my application for Midwifery yesterday, with everything that has been going on I never thought i would make it. Writing 2000 words is really hard!! But, I passed all my Pre-Health classes with A's except one i got a B. I am finishing off the last one now which is maths.

Work is still good, I love my job and it will be sad to go, I am now in Formal Complaints. It is challenging, but also pretty cool.

Right back to Kylah, she is so grown up. She talks like a big kid. I love the random things she comes out with. She is currently into tinkerbell, and buzz lightyear!

Hope everyone else is well.

Edited by LittleMiss

I admire those of you who go on to two, three and more children! I am more than happy with my one little angel.
Loving Jaymie so much right now (as always!), it is such an awesome age. She is so loving, always giving us impromptu hugs and kisses and her imaginative play has really stepped up. We are planning a trip to the UK next year with the inlaws to visit the relatives, very exciting stuff!

We are starting the the local Playcentre on Monday which will be good.

Tessa is 1 year old on Wednesday - can't quite believe it, I have just done a slideshow for her (always wanted to get into scrapbooking but it has nver happened so this is the closest I have got to) Anyway this is it if you would like to have a look.

My other news (which Nikki knows!) is I am preg with number three, think I must be due in Jan or Feb but have not really had an AF (just feeding Tess 1 feeed in the morning) so I will talk to the midwife on Monday about a dating scan - very exciting, slightly scary, this is going to be a busy household! In fact I have recognised alot of my own traits in her that I had forgotton, because as an adult I had got past alot of my insecurity issues. But when I think back, I was also shy and can be quite standoffish with new people. I just keep encouraging her to be friendly and she is making more of an effort lately and I see big improvements.
Cute about the PJ's!
That's cool that Jett has taken to Kindy so well.
Funny seeing the differences in the boys aye NZPiper - I am constantly amazed at the difference in my five siblings and I since we were all brought up the same way!
Looking forward to seeing the piccy of Lachie.
Hope everyone is having a great weekend. I went away for a girl's night on Friday, there was 10 of us and it was a big night! Got back around 2.30pm yesterday and then DH and I had a lovely quiet night watching a DVD. Like you Nicky when he says no when I ask him if he wants to go I just give him the choice of the potty and the big boy toilet - he seems to change his favourite each week.
Tessa has crawled quite a bit after Lachie and her first tooth was a couple of months later as well but I think she will be walking a little earlier and she seems to be makes more sounds than he did at this age, but she certainly does not sleep as well - bugger it!
Just finished moving - horrible, now I have crap everywhere and am trying to find homes for it all. so Lachie has gone to Nana and pops and Tessa is out for the day with the au pair, Talina so I can make some organisational headway. I would rather be reading a book!

So good to hear from you all, will find a pic of Lachie and put it up soon. Good to hear from you Lulu and what a beautiful girl you have.

Anouska, glad to hear you have the SLT going with Jett. We havent had any concerns with Tom...talks nonstop, started early and will never stop! James is a little quieter in that respect but I am starting to hear "words" now. Its quite a change from Tom so you cant help but worry a little. However he understands EVERYTHING I say to him and can follow 3-4 step instructions (if he wants to). He can say nana (banana), no (nononononono!), mum and just recently I have had du for duck, do for dog, fff for woof, ack ack for quack and buh for baa. So I figure that all counts!

Unlike Tom James moved early. Well Tom did too..but then stopped the physical development while is mouth took over LOL. James on the other hand is so well coordinated it amazes me. He loves singing and dancing etc. They are all so different.

TTing is not really happening here either. This week I have decided to give it a bit more of a go as Tom no longer fits our cloth nappies. So we are in pull ups but its me that takes him to the toilet. He has lost all interest. He was going really well a few months ago and then flatly refused so I havent pushed it. but now I am starting to make him go. If I ask he says No so I say toilet or potty? and that seems to work. Not going down the undies line for a while though....he sees that as a free pass to wee.

Anyway, I better go. I am getting a break thanks to the wiggles. both boys SHOULD be asleep but they are refusing and James has a docs appointment in an hour so not worth putting them down. We are going out tonight so I might try putting them down late.

Actually I asked the plunket nurse at J's 2yr check if there was anything I could do to aid her with her speech, and she was hopeless, she says to me 'what should they be saying at 2?' and I thought to myself 'um, isn't that your job to know?'. I think she's on track now though, I'll just keep my eye on her. Anouska you have a good memory of my eyes!
Talking of TT'ing Kandice, I initially thought it was easy peasy as Jaymie took to it like a fish to water and very rarely had any accidents. It was like this for about a month or so, then suddenly about a week ago she asked to be put into a nappy and has refused undies ever since! So I've decided not to push her, but just wait until she's ready again.
Good on you for doing your study, very dedicated. I just don't have that sort of energy I don't think! Funny, J is like Kylah in that she is shy around others but she doesn't stop talking non stop gibberish around anyone she is comfortable with!

Nice to 'see' you! Can I ask why Jett is seeing a speech therapist, is he talking a bit or not at all? Jaymie has been a bit slow to talk and only recently started stringing more than one word together. In fact her first sentence was 'My turn Mum!' and I've heard it alot since then! Now she talks non stop but most of her words are not formed properly. I wonder if I should be giving it more attention? Also I spend alot of time trying to teach her to count but she insists on just repeating 'two, five, two, five' over and over. I kind of figured that she will get there in the end, but I'd hate to miss something that might be important. I guess I have learnt to be a bit laid back as she did not walk until she was... 2 yrs 3 mths old!!! She's now running around like she's always done it!
She is very on to it with her comprehension and has been since very young, and she has recently become very loving, giving me kisses and cuddles constantly. I take her to playcentre once a week to try and get her use to being around other children as she has always been very shy, and this seems to be helping her to come out of her shell. All in all, we have heaps of fun and she is my best little mate. Here's a recent photo of her:

You must be finding some of these days a bit hot with a belly, although you are looking great in your pics! Not long, all the best.
We have another Jett here it seems, Lachie is a shocker and around here is is just so dangerous, lots of streaming and big tractors and motorbikes - a boys dream (he is out on a digger today) and a mothers nightmare!) It is a big part of the reason we got an au pair beucase if I ned up on the phone and doing bills etc, I can't aitch him and he HATES being inside, so Talina (our au pair) is a god send.

We had some biting here a few months ago Nikki, a couple of times at daycare and I was horrified. They just said no, gave lots of attention to the victim and put him on a seat and we did the same at home he eventually seemed to get it but mainly I think it was just a phase and daycare said boys tend to do it more than girls. I am hoping it does not come up again. Now Lachie just wants to tackle and hug everyone but most kids arn't so keen either when done over enthusiastically - he is just so rough - I blame DH!

We think we will have number three but I am in no rush, what will be will be!

We had a lovely Christmas day here with a constant stream of people and Lachie was beyond excitement - his day sleep went out the window but he was really good all day, I was waiting for a melt down.

Tessa is great, reflux has settled, although she still spews chunks a few times a day, my carpet is a disaster area but she s a happy chucker now so I am not really complaining. Still waking once at night so nothing like her brother in that respect but I love having a wee girl and Lachie a great with her. She is commando crawling - backwards much to her disgust and frustration, Lachie has been trying to teach her to go forwards, entertaining to watch.

Good to hear how everyone is doing, have a wonderful New Year
I know what you mean about them not liking being told not to do something. Kylah is exactly the same. Thats when we have tantrums. I remember i went and bought her paint and we were walking out of the mall, she sat on the floor and asked to paint, i told her no and she had a tanty right there!

I look at James and think "you are going to be one in a fe weeks....and your almost walking....no longer a baby!" He can now feed himself his meals so is not that dependent on me.....apart from my boobs.

I can so relate to what you are going through with Jett. Tom has worked out how to drag his stool over to the front door and reach the keys. WE have just bought security chains for the front door and the garage...not because we want to keep people OUT...because we want to keep people IN! he also pushes my buttons constantly when it comes to JAmes. James is sporting two great bite shaped bruises. Nothing seems to stop the biting...it does my head in. Any thoughts?

I'm probably 70% against number 3 now...so it is coming down. I think we have so many toys it would be wrong to not have a third....but I worry about the finances...especially when they are teenagers. Is that a good enough reason not to?

So what was the hit Christmas present? Unfortunately Tom is too little for his glide to ride bike. He loves it but cant touch the ground so he puts his feet on the "pedal" bit and we have to push him. James got one of those yellow and red plastic trikes and LOVES it!
