I went to Chch one last year - went really early and left DS at mother-in-law. Didnt get much attention from stall holders as I wasnt noticeably pregnant and no kids in tow. However, I found it was good to research items and made some decisions but bought mainly later on to avoid crowds and pushy sales people. I got as many freebies as possible and it made it worthwhile - oh and not to mention, entered as many competitions as possible (I am a competition junkie!)

I went to the Auck one last year when I was preggie and it was great... mainly cos we went with a list of things we needed to buy and got them way cheaper - stroller, breastpump, bebepod and grobag egg were our big purchases and we got a few smaller things too. Got soooo many samples. Actually Sunday's were majorly quieter than Friday's also. I think a lot of mum's go on Friday assuming it'll be the quieter day and that's not the way it works. I loved the Auckland one - I found it really useful. I've heard the other centres' ones weren't as good though.

One tip if you aren't going with children is go in the afternoons as apparently most families go in the mornings.

I received so much stuff at the first one, 52 disposable nappies, several balls and other bits and pieces. It definitely covered the entrance fee. I was around 29 weeks pregnant at the time so the ideal target.

Last year it didn't seem quite as big and I didn't get as many goodies, but there were still some great specials.

This time around I'll be around 37 weeks pregnant and I'm definitely planning to go. I'll be looking for discounts on either boosters or convertible carseats, and hoping for lots of freebies to be thrown at me again.

I'm hoping to be able to score a free ticket somehow though. The first time we had two free tickets, but there were three of us, so we still had to pay a wee bit, but we were all able to collect the freebies. The second time I was helping out on a stand so I got free tickets that way. I went last year (to Auckland) and loved it! Well and truely worth the entry fee, and that was me, DH and my sister! We all got loads of freebies! I was about 12 weeks pregnant with Oliver so didn't really know what I needed, but had a really good look at everything. I didn't find anyone pushy and there were heaps of MCN stalls - cause I checked them all out

And my opinion too. Yeah, we got about 10 free nappies but that'd nowhere near cover the cost of 2 adult tickets. I don't like having to pay for entering what essentially is a shopping mall. The Auckland one last year was everything the Wellington one wasn't by the sounds of it
There were just as many MCN stalls there as sposies stalls and I loved that there were the "normal" toys as well as the quality kiwi-made wooden stuff (but soooo expensive ) and I didn't find any of the stall holders pushy. We liked it so much Emma and I returned for more freebies the next day

The CHCH one is absolute shyte. Hardly any specials, each stall is pretty much the same, freebies consisted of about half a dozen nappies, a can of baby food and a plasticky bib that you can't even bend it's so hard. Such a waste of an entry fee. If I went by myself it would have been fine, but DH and mum came too so we paid $30 and were only allowed one lot of freebies! Such a ripoff.

Most of the specials were things like $200 of a $1000 pram etc, which you find if you shop around anyway. Definitely not what I would expect. So so disappointing. I've been every year since '03, even in '06 when the gremlins were 10 days old (they were great freebie-magnets ).
I personally love it, but then I am a total consumer. Highlights for me have been stocking up on the gremlins formula cheap last year, getting all 3 of them My Blanket personalised blankets cheap, cheap MCN's, cheap Simply Colors stuff...

Got frustrated at all the products that were designed for 'sensitive skin' which had so much bloody fragrance and chemicals in it that hannah's eczema would have flared up immediately. We went last year and we didn't find it that amazing. We did get discount vouchers etc but didn't really need or use all of them - I gave out quite a few. We got some freebies too but again, not that amazing. The thing was, we didn't really need anything when we went so we didn't find it that great.
I suggest you go if there are things you need to buy as there seem to be a lot of stuff on sale, otherwise don't bother.

I went when Caleb was about four months old and got so many free nappies and baby food it more than doubled our entrance fee. I have to say that I agree with Nikki. Both my husband and I thought it was a huge waste of time and money. Sure you get handed out some free nappies and the odd other thing but lots of it is just brochures and things you just end up throwing away when you get home.

I have been to the Wellington one the past 4 years and it is a not to be missed. I have only brought a few things at them and they were good deals. With the amount of freebies handed to you it is well worth the entry fee. I am working out at the moment how to convince my DH that I can go up to the AK one this year.

I went to the one in 2006 and 2003 ... thoroughly enjoyed both and found them worthwhile - although I didn't buy much in 2006 as my daughter was 2 1/2.

I definitely don't want to miss this years - but it is only 2 weeks before I'm due so not sure how I'll be feeling at the time.
