I wished i had gone and had tests done at 5 months... I knew something was wrong, but it was only a gut instinct, so doctor told me to wait two years! B******d....
Was it easier having seen your sister go through tough times, to deal with. I know no one ever talks about infertility, but i think i am the only one i know going through it... Thats why this site is so great. Thank goodness my BF put me on to it!
I might have to look into private. I really don't want to be dicked around in the public sector. I don't know what the nz health system is like anymore..

It depends on where you are and what you need doing as to how much it costs. I looked at the Christchurch Fertility center website and it lists some of the costs on there. But it didn't list costs for some of the common early tests (eg. HSG, lap etc) but I figured they would be expensive.

I am with Southern Cross health insurance and luckily I have been with them for about 3 years now but because it was organised through my husbands work and in a corporate scheme pre-existing conditions were covered from the start (I had my gall bladder surgery 2 months after getting health insurance!) otherwise I would have had to wait 3 years.

That is why I currently have 2 separate referrals - one for fertility through the public system and one to a private women's clinic here in Christchurch for my AF problems as general gynaecology is covered by health insurance but infertility isn't. We TTC for 18mths and were booked in to see the fertility specialists in January (we got pregnant in the October yay!). This seems to happen to a lot fo people on here too. It's almost as if you just surcumb to the idea that it's not going to happen without a helping hand and da daaahhh

As for the health insurance - a lot of people have AF issues which lead to fertility issues and that's how they get laparoscopies etc paid out (that's what we did).
Just be careful what tests you get done before you sign up for insurance as they will try to wriggle out of paying your claim due to pre-existing conditions and stand you down for 3 years before you can claim - last thing you need is another 3 years

It is weird that it has finally come to this. We are going public at the moment as nobody can tell us how much private will cost. Plus am about to buy a house and am getting married in 8 months so cash is short. It's good your health insurance will cover your AF problems, i read that no NZ insurer covers fertility stuff. Do you mind if i ask who you are with??? Just got back into the country and am organising my health Insurance this week.
I think i have had 21 day test (is that progestgone? sp?)
I hope the AF problems are fixed. Keep me posted :)

My DH and I have been TTC for 18 months now and like you have also just been referred for fertility treatment. They came back and requested that my GP do CD3 and CD21 bloods so am awaiting those results (did CD3 today). Are you going public or private for the fertility investigations? We went privately through Mary Birdsall at Fertility Associates in Auckland. She was wonderful. I also know of some ladies who do neurolink stuff (kinda like cranial osteopathy) who can often help with fertility. I saw them for other reasons after I had Elle and although I had never told them my history, they could tell i'd had fertility issues as the part of the brain that controls certain hormones wasn't working. They dealt with that and what do you know..second pregnancy I got pregnant first month trying. Hiya. Welcome to Oh baby.

We TTC for 2 years also but were referred a bit earlier than you. After multiple investigations they determined it was "unexplained infertility" and we ended up doing 3 cycles of clomiphene and got pregnant on the 3rd one. We tried for a total of 27 months before we got pregnant.

The good news is that since then, I have got pregnant first month twice (I lost both but it wasn't because of problems with DH or me...one was a chemical pregnancy and the other was a partial molar meaning 2 sperm fertilised one egg leading to too much genetic information).

I understand how hard it is to TTC for so long but many many people have been in our shoes and do achieve a pregnancy in time. For now, hard as it is, try to just relax as much as you can and hold onto hope.

There are a few of us who have been trying awhile, DP and I since last april. The advice I'd give is to be gentle to yourself on the days when it's really hard, like the day AF shows up. I've had accupuncture which has really helped calm me down a bit.
In terms of your specialist, I'm not sure. We've had tests done through our doc with results due once i've had my ultrasound on Fri. There may be other women here who can help with this. Good luck. Hello i am new here. But my DH and i have been TTC for over 2 years nw, with nothing. We are being refered to a speciality clinic by our GP now. Has anyone had any experience with this? GP doesn't know anything and we feel blind and unsure about the whole progress. Any (ANY!) advice would go along way to help. It just feels like we have given up,,,
