Hi,

I was told to stop the cranberry tablets whilst ttc but be vigerous when it comes to preventing uti's (I was operated on twice for reflux but I still have trouble) So things like going toilet straight away and making sure you drink loads of water, going to the toilet as soon as you feel the need and making sure you finish properly and the obvious stuff like wiping front to back dadadadada.
ANYWAY when I was preg with number one my midwife sent be to a OB regularly becuase of the whole reflux thing, he kept an eye on things and my urine was tested all the time so they could catch a uti if one crept up. But u will still be under the care of a midwife, if she thinks your case is severe enough you will see a ob once a month as well. After baby I had to go in for these scan thingys to check the kidneys as well

Hi Gazelle, I used to take cranberry tablets because of recurrent UTIs but have stopped since TTC.
I have read that because it lowers pH levels this makes it harder for sperm to survive.

I used to get UTI's all the time but haven't had any for a while as I always go to the bathroom after sex and I take cranberry pills. Does anyone know if it is safe to keep taking these while ttc?

Also does recurrent UTI's mean you would need a specialist rather than a midwife? I have reflux nephropathy according to the dr.

It is all getting real now. I start taking Elevit this weekend!

I used to get UTI's heaps too, but it hasn't been a problem while TTC so far! dammit now I've said that I just know I'll get one
And as for wet patches... Once a week sheet cleaning is enough for me. I stick a towel under me (when I can), that solves the wet patch issue. At the moment I have one towel rolled up to pop under my hips and the other to catch any drips When we inseminate at night I usually just curl up on my side and drift off into sleepy land. In the mornings I read my book for about 30 minutes before getting up. I also find that if I have an orgasm right after insemination then I have very little drips to worry about. NeoshasMummy - my daughter used to get kidney reflux but when she was only 2yrs she had a bilateral reimplantation of the urethras and never looked back!

I too also get UIT's if I dont pee as well, and I want to avoid it as much as possible because I cant function when I have the darn thing. So painful!!

I go straight away because I had kidney reflux and get constant uti's and I have managed to get preg 4 times all up So I guess its no hard and fast rule

I think when we were TTC I left it 20 mins and did the feet up the wall trick (hey, it worked!) but I have had UTI's before from not going to pee, so I always did. Plus I can't stand sleeping in a wet patch anymore, don't know how I used to. If it's at night time, I just fall asleep afterwards haha, then when I wake up needing to pee in the middle of the night I get up. There was talk about this awhile ago. And I remember most women saying about half an hour.
Myself, I just stayed in bed for as long as I wanted. I've never had a UTI in my life from staying in bed after sex so it was never an issue.
If fact this last month that I got preg, I did get up to go to the ensuite to get some tissue paper to blow my nose, then got back in bed....and that was the time I think I conceived!
