Isla is sleeping really well at nights now that we got rid of the bottle. Last 2 nights its been 12 hrs straight without even a sqeak all night! Yay!

But,...since Sat when we got rid of the bottle, she hasnt drunk ANY formula at all. Yeah Isla is doing really well! Slept 12 hrs last night, with only a squeak at 6am! Bliss!
So how long will it take me to catch up on 17months broken sleep??!! LMAO! Hmmm....I am a mean mummy and unless I know that either of the kids is not particularly well and can tell def from Blakes cry and of course Paige just comes in....they go to bed and thats that... We RARELY get woken up and generally just leave them to it. They are GREAT sleepers. Paige from the word go and Blake from after his trip to Naughty Babies school at 8months............. where I had my eyes open to MANY things about these little clever people!

Make a plan and stick to it.. it will teach her to learn to re settle herself into a good sleep......Plus usually only takes three nights to break a habit ....not much to put up with for peaceful nights!

Thanks everyone.

Isla woke around 9.30pm for quite a while, but I know her cries and it was very on and off, attention one, not pain. After about 20 mins, just as I was gonna give in and go to her she went back to sleep. That was it til 6.30am! Yay!

Shes still not very interested in drinking her milk from sippt cup or even her fav straw cup she has for water. How did the night go Kellz?

When we had the same issue with Michaela we stopped giving her a bottle/dummy in her cot cold turkey. She wasn't happy about it but I did a variation of the CIO method where instead of leaving her alone in the room I stayed with her sitting next to her cot not facing her but with my arm across her belly until she fell asleep.

She just needed to retrain her to go to sleep without the props. Isla didnt drink any of her milk this morning, but we have had a VERY busy day renovating, and shes had her cousin and grandparents here, so I think she was distracted! Didnt even have a nap til 3pm,..for 45 mins . Didnt have much milk tonight either, but has eaten good meals today.

Went to bed just before 7pm, cried about 20 mins,..but hasnt woken so far.

Baby b free teets are excellent. As soon as my dd started with these there was no going back to bottle teets. They are a soft spout. My DD wasnt satisfied wit sippy cups and these baby b free spouts meant she went fom bottle teet to baby b free to cup and straw.

Mel its more the bottle that we are trying to wean her off as shes just comfort sucking, then waking and needing have it again to be able to settle, not whats in the bottle! We are only giving her cold water in her bottle anyway!

Well the night went suprisingly well! Isla slept from 7pm till,....OMG 7.40am! She woke and cried for less than 5 mins at around 10pm, and then did a even shorter squeak at 1am and 6am,..and that was it!Didnt go in to her at all. Sounds to me like she is waking for the comfort of having the teat.

Try this:

For her bed time bottle, feed her in the lounge. Give her whatever she normally has at night before bed. Have some cuddles and then put her into bed as you normally do.

When she wakes the first time. Go into her room and give her a drink (give her what you normally do).

Second time: Give her 90-100mls
Third time: Give her the same.

Do this for about 3 days. On the third night reduce ALL bottles by 10mls, then the next 3 days reduce again by 10mls. Do this for a week. The second week you reduce again by 10mls BUT you only give her one bottle in the middle of the night, if she wakes again, try and cuddle her back to sleep. ONLY if you feel that you can do that.

You are basically weaning her off being reliant on the bottle. The only thing is, that you and DH need to stick with this.

The other option which I don't particularly agree with is trying CC or CIO. I don't recommend it though.

This is what we've been doing with Cooper and the stretches have become longer. We aren't trying to wean him off the bottle, we are trying to wean him off his 4am wake up.

With Andrew I just took his bottle away at 18 odd months and said you don't need it anymore and he was fine with it.

We have tried that too, I used to do it and it was fine she never used it, but now even with a bottle of water in her cot,..she still wakes crying,..and when I go in all I do is put it back in her mouth and tuck her in. I sooo dont need to be ding that half the night!

The gremlins have a bottle before sleeps and I'm in no hurry to wean them, but like Isla they've been waking in the night. I only give them water, but it means that I have to get up to them nonetheless.

Well Isla drank just over 1/2 of her night bottle out of various cups - she so not keen on the non-spill sippy cup with the hard mouth piece, but she keeps trying to open the cheaper ones and/or shaking them so it goes everywhere.

We put her to bed and she jumped up crying straightaway, but has stopped within 5 mins, so yay!

That is great about her 11.00 am sleep Kellz. Maybe you might just need to try the same thing at night? Hopefully it will work again then. I know how horrible the crying is but you are so right that you will all be happier once you can sleep well again.

Yeah Im not worried about her having the bottle, just the awful nights because it seems she needs it to go back to sleep.
She used to self settle, but stupidly when I wasnt well I let her go down with a bottle. It was soo nice that she would just lie there at night and wave goodnight,..much better that crying to sleep each night,..but yeah now its lead on to this!

I put her down for her sleep at 11am with no bottle, and she cried for 15 mins but then went to sleep and is still asleep. Yay. This wouldnt be a problem if she wasnt waking 3-6 times a night to be plugged back in with the bottle,..we only give her cold water in it overnight, so Im sure its more the confort than whats actually in it. She currently goes to sleep at night with the bottle of milk.
If I let her she would carry it around it her mouth all day. Has bitten through 6 teats in the last few weeks

I tried given it too her in a sippy cup this morning and she only had about 1/2. I dint give in tho, and have put all the bottles out of sight. Dont know whats gonna happen tonight tho, will have to try giving it to her in the cup in the lounge before she goes to bed.

We just cant go on like this, the nights have got rediculous again,..she was sleeping through for about 6 weeks age 13-14 months,...but now all the night waking/ screaming is affecting us, and DH's work performance, and my sanity!

Help! Any ideas greatly appreciated!
