I do it a lot, and have scored some real bargains too.  I've been caught out on a few items not fitting in season, and learnt that it's best to keep the labels on them until you need them, because they can always be put on Trade Me as 'new' if you don't use them.  There's some great prices for the taking every now and then - I've bought Ella's next winter's gumboots for only a few dollars and some gorgeous $20 shoes for $1... sure, they'll fit her in about 3 or 4 years, but hey, it a dollar - can't really go wrong!

I have done this as well but with the thought in the back of my head that if it doesn't fit Joy at the right season it will probably be able to be used for the next baby. I brought some summer clothes for Ella earlier in the season (when she was around 3 months old) expecting her to be able to wear them now, however they are now getting far too small. I was told by the shop assistant that 00 would fit her for a while and that her growth rate would slow.....haha so not the case with Ella, if anything her growth rate increased. In saying that I have been stocking on some on some of long sleeved tops & pants that PP have that would be suitable for winter.

yeah i do the same, we just bought for the rough age that baby would be by the start of the next season, Ayja, however stayed in size 0-1 up until now (and she's nearly 3 but she's a tiny shorty) but once they get past the 1st year you kinda get a feel for what sizes fit in what ways, ie we always found with our girls that they had tiny bums so smaller sizes needed for pants but normal age group sizes for tops, and it will vary from brand to brand as you would have found too. How scary it is now to be buying size 6 or even 7 for Paris for next summer when she's only 4 and a half, just cos she has longish legs and long arms.

We do this at the end of summer and the end of winter and usually have to really only buy for paris as Ayja inherits alot of paris's stuff.

We tend to get alot of the basics, ie shorts and t shirts for summer and trackies and skivvies for winter, plus jerseys/jackets etc, then go when the season starts and just buy a few new items that can mix and match with what we already have to keep up with that season's style.

Problem is coming now though - that Paris is getting tougher on her clothes as she is far more active, so less are able to be handed down to Ayja as good clothes, they are more daycare quality by the time they get to her now.

I have been doing this for years now. I just get the next size up now for the boys (so Andrew is getting size 4-5 and Josh 1-2), the same for Winter clothes as well.

The gremlins seem to have been stuck in the same size forever and some of their summer dresses are still too big but for the most part we've done OK. You will find once they hit one their growth slows down a lot. They are also in size 0 for ages. I would work out how old he will be and buy the label for that age (check the age because different brands have different sizes for each age). I do. I have bought most of Sam's clothing for next summer in the sales in the past month or so and will do the same at the end of winter for the next year also.

We have been caught out with Sam as she should have been in the 6-9 month size over this summer but is still wearing her 3-6 month stuff now!!!

In saying that, I am still buying size 1 for next year regardless. Just trying to get myself slightly organised as all the summer sales are on.

Does anyone on here buy for next season in the sales and has anyone been majorly caught out with sizes being to small when the next summer/winter rolls around.

As my wee one is only 9 weeks old, I am not too confident with sizes and how big he will be next summer.
