I went away from Jack at the same age and hand expressed enough to make me comfortable down the sink.

Bobbie yes you can you just have to make sure its all the same temperature. So I would express it into a bottle and then put it in fridge and when its cool enough then add it to the earlier expressed milk.
For me its a really good way to measure out especially if I just want to top him up.

Bobbie, I understand thatif the milk is the same temperature ie, you've had 2 lots in the fridge for most of the day, then yes, but you shouldn't add freshly expressed to previously expressed cold or frozen milk

    Author: lottieandharry
Subject: 13924
Posted: 25 January 2008 at 3:40pm

Hi all just wanted some advice on expressing milk. I never bothered first time round but this time would like a little flexibility and also want to try topping DS up with EBM at night.
So what I want to know is how do I go about the whole process?? I have just bought a medela pump and know that I should express first thing in the morning after he feeds but for how long? I am guessing it may take a few mornings to get a decent amount, correct? Also we have a wedding to go to in 5 weeks time so if I leave him with Mum to give his feed that night do I still have to take my pump with me and express the feed he would normally have??
Sorry if I sound completely hopeless but I really don't have any idea and don't want to muck around with my milk supply. Also DS is 2 1/2 weeks old how much is he likely to drink in one feed?
Also do people use the bags to freeze their milk? I got some medela bottles that you can freeze milk in but only have 3 so guess I will need something else?

Right waffle over , thanks in advance for your help!
