Author: cuppatea
Subject: 13441
Posted: 08 January 2008 at 10:35am

Spencer did this at 5 months as well, started waking up twice a night it lasted about a week and then everything went back to normal. I would just feed him as I have never been brave enough to not feed him when he wakes at night. I figure quick feed and back to bed better than trying to resettle him, god knows how long that could take and I would probably cave and feed him anyway.
I spoke to plunket about it at his 5 month check and she said that it is quite common for them to do this at that age because of all the developmental changes that happen. She suggested just extra cuddles and resettling when he wakes apparently they can get seperation anxiety as they have only just worked out they are on their own when they wake up. I just stuck with the feeding though...i'm such a wimp.

As for the screaming, Spencer did that a lot, at one ante natal coffee group we were trying to talk above him....was so funny. He has toned it done a bit now and will scream but it is not non stop anymore as he has discovered lots of other great noises he can make, like the one that makes him sound like he can't breath or the falling of a cliff noise...AHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhh............

But she is so hard to settle and sleep during the day, much more interested in squealing and playing with her feet in the cot, yet when you get her up she starts to cry . I have to wrap her in this situation. At night she only has her PJ's on and nothing else - no sheets/blankets as she just gets so hot in this heat (plus being a hot baby). Have you tried increasing the amount of solids you are giving Tom? Have you ever thought about giving a formula feed at night?

He woke at at 3 this morning, and drunk a full bottle, so I'm putting it down to the heat.

He could be waking because he's thirsty and/or too hot in bed. Cooper sleeps in is PekeMoe and a onesie with a summer sheet over him. During the day he's in a singlet and nappy.

Hope you get him sorted soon

AND he has started to wake at 1am and wont go back to sleep till 2-3am!!!! he didnt do that much as a newborn!

So the last couple of nights (we had been getting back to dream feed at 10 and waking once for dummy and then thru til 6) we are bed 6.30-7pm, waking at 10 wanting feed, waking at 1 wanting feed, wide awake till 3am then waking at 5-6!

I am exhausted. Why oh why do they do these things to us? I have increased his feeds to 2.5-3 hourly as he always seems hungry. he gets 2 solid meals (one at mid morning and one at 5pm)

HELP!!!
