Hi

I don't know if its an age thing - but both my children did the same thing at about this age. I was devastated when dd refused me - and she was still feeding 4 times a day. Best of all we went to a family wedding that weekend and I was engorged....imagine all those family hugs (ouchie!!). It was also around the time that I introduced formula in a sippy cup as I was preparing for returning to work - I think mine both realised how easy the cup thing was!

hey sweetheart, you've done so well, over 8 months of BFing is awesome. I was lucky cos I was able to give up one feed at a time with Cailin until we pretty much just stopped together....maybe you and Sam will be able to have a small comfort feed in the mornings like you did this morning, that should help with any overflow until your boobs settle down.

Thanks becks. Weird thing is that I don't even think I have refilled   She had a small feed this morning from each side which helped alot. More as a comfort thing to have a nap. Tried again tonight but the screaming started so I guess I am not producing enough for her anyway. She feel asleep with a nice warm tummy full of formula with no problems.

Josh did the same to me at 7 months. I just expressed off in the shower and didn't end up with any problems.

If she's letting you go cold turkey, then just express the top off in the shower when you get engorged. You did really well. I had Bella right down to one feed in the morning, and I was thinking I'd keep doing that for a couple of months, but she refused me one morning, and weaned herself . She much prefers the bottle and literally swipes it out of my hand to get it!! I had heard about the cabbage leaf thing too...

 to you, its hard giving up...

Well I tried to feed her this morning and same result. A few half hearted attempts and lots of tears. At the same time as the tears she was looking over my shoulder at the table to search for the bottle!(which wasn't there as i hadn't made one up in hope). She has only ever had two in her whole life! Man she is too smart for her own good!

She is now quite happy after a bottle and I am left feeling quite depressed about the whole thing

When I stopped I used a combination of chilled cabbage leaves (yes they really work!!!!) and Milk Stop available from health shops.

You can also express off just enough to relieve the pressure but not so much that you keep on producing.

Ideally it would be great if you could cut down the feeds but if Miss S is going to cold turkey that is tricker. I did stop cold turkey though and doing the above had no problems thankfully (though I did feel like a had a colwslaw stuffed in my bra!!! )

I managed to wean Jack 1 feed at a time, however if Sam is refusing you, that wont work! To try to preven infection (which might not happen anyway), I would express for all but 1 feed and slowly work down till you stop doing that. For all you Mums out that that have stopped b/feeding.

Samantha is now refusing to feed from me after getting a taste of formula and realising she doesn't have to work for it
I am just a bit worried about any problems that I could have in relation to stopping cold turkey so to speak. I am trying to get her to feed off me but it has just been resulting in lots of screaming!
Any suggestions on what I should do? I don't want to end up with an infection or similar
