thanks 'kelpa'. I am parenting alone so this site is great! So lovely to get help and support from other Mums. As you were the one who mentioned getting things done in an hour, can I ask a bit more about this. Should I be feeding, changing, cuddling (and playing?) with Jonathan at this age (6 weeks) all within the hour and be putting him to sleep again during the day as well as night?    If he cries when put down I leave him to see if it revs up. If it does should I pick him up again or leave him to cry it out. My let down changed when I had Blake ...prob cause my boobs got so huge.....compared to when she was born 8 years ago! LOL

Bubs will come right babe...just take time. Yea..Kick time on floor..for 5-10 mins max at this age :) Just being up and feedng and having their eyes open is hard work for little bubbas :)

And yes...fast let down can cause few little problems at the start...but he will get used to it.

Reason I asked is Paige would take FOREVER to feed til she was about 4 months but was a fine feeder. Blake would take 5 MINS!!!! Hey Ladies, thanks for your great input. I think the point about getting him fed, changed, cuddled and settled again within an hour is a good one. Being Xmas and with lots of visitors I think this has gone out the window and it may be I'm overstimulating him. I'd also taken 'activity time' too literally thinking he wanted to be up and about but recently read that at this age this means feeding, changing, cuddling and thats about it. Would you agree? We did get a good block of sleep last night and I have just given a decent feed and put him back down within the hour but he is crying the house down. I'll pick him up now but wonder if I should let him cry it out. I haven't heard that - it is a good point. Depends how desperate you are I suppose. I wrap my baby for feeding when he is squirmy and other times leave him unwrapped and he cuddles in ok each time - but I am not a lactation consultant so I am not sure what the prof opinion is. However I am a firm believer in your own instinct, go with what works for you.

Guess depends on baby? But sometimes wrapping can let them know that they are there for feeding...not doing gym? I got told not to wrap whilst feeding by the lactaion consultant because baby needs to be close to you and cuddle into you?! Wrap your baby for feeding and sleeping. Get plunket or another mother or MW to show you a good method. Babies can be unsettled for the first 3 months :( as their bodies learn to adjust to milk and wind etc. Are you doing everything within the hour and getting him back down???? Lots of people mistake little babies being windy when they are really over tired. Which then becomes vicious cycle...


It could be reflux...That is about the age that Blake got it and being settled for a bit and then pulling off is one of the signs of Reflux as they suck because they think it settles there tum only to get the pain again so pull off.

My newborn was pretty good in the first four weeks, with roughly a 3 hour feeding pattern, but in the last two weeks he has got increasingly squirmy and wriggly. Sometimes he seems manic with eyes wide, breathing heavy and arms and legs flailing about. He calms when he latches on only to pull away again shortly after. This sometimes goes on for hours and exhausts me. I put him over my shoulder regularly for wind but even from there squirms around. When he finally settles and falls asleep on the boob, I put him down only for him to open his eyes and start all over again.
