I thought it was more to do with thier immune system and all the bugs in the public pools so wasnt recommended till about 6mths, well thats what i thought anyway. we paid a fortune for lessons for kobe when he was that age and what a waste. Public swimming pools here start lessons for babies at six months, but do take them from about five months if you ask about it (just won't put their heads under water I think). Not sure about private swim schools.

If you have a bath, that will be enough for Megan while she is still little, to get her used to the feel of the water and having it over her head etc. and it won't have the yucky chlorine or heaps of noise from other kids etc. that might not be a great first experience for her. we go to one of the non chlorine ones....safe for bubbas...

but we got ella started in our HUGE spa bath...she loves the water....and seems to be enjoying lessons...we do need to go with her maybe once a week for a play at the other pools tho to get her to play etc as our lessons are at pool where strictly in for lessons and then out...

It definitley depends on the pool. Sam goes to a private swim school and they are ok from 3 months, although the pool is usually pretty warm. We have a 4 month old in our class that swims like a fish already! I've asked my local pool about swimming lessons and they won't do lessons til 6 months.

3 months is the minimum to take her to a public pool for swimming lessons although we didn't start Samantha until she was closer to 5 months. Under 3 months they can't regulate their own body temperatures.

Good idea though, Samantha loves swimming lessons and has just started learning how to do dolphin dives underwater.
