thanks for your suggestions!

i've started the reward for each length of time he wears them thing. so far so good. i haven't sent him to daycare with them yet as i'm worried he will take them off and leave them somewhere...or leave them on the floor as he likes to do i don't think he'll have a problem with other kids being nasty as there's already a couple of boys there that wear glasses.

Hey, I'm glad he has his glasses now. Goodluck with getting your lil man to wear his glasses.

I got headaches and sore eyes when I got my first pair of glasses. I was older tho I was in primary.

I bet he will look ultra cute

Umm... it's a bit different for Josiah because he needs his glasses to see properly (where normal 20/20 vision is 0, his new glasses are scripted at +7, which is incredibly strong especially for someone as young as he is)

We let him dictate how much he wore them when we first got his first pair a year ago. We encouraged him to wear them... things like "You need your glasses on before Mummy will read you that story" or "Put your glasses on and then we'll have afternoon tea"... but if he took them off after a couple of minutes then that was fine too. Eventually he built up to wearing them for half a day at a time, then all day. Even now we don't force him to wear them, if he wants to take them off we encourage Josiah to put them back on but we don't push the issue.

Remember Jack is not used to having something on his face all the time and his ears and nose will get sore from the pressure. My FIL has had glasses for a while, and he told Nat the other day that a new script can take a couple of days to get used to and can hurt the eyes for a little while. My brother had glasses from very young and wore them without fuss because he was so blind without them.

The main problem we had was kids at kindy said mean things to him about the glasses and then he didn't want to wear them. Micheal was about the same age when he got his glasses and he would never wear them this is what was suggested to us by the specialist and it did work.

Make up a sticker chart and ask your child to wear them for a short period of time each day a couple of times a day. ie watching a favourite programme or in the car. Give a sticker each time they manage to keep them on start with small times. Gradually increase the time you will know how fast you can go and make a huge deal whenever they keep them on even if it's only for 5 or ten minutes at first. The general idea is and this happened with Micheal he started to realise that he could see a little better with them on and the more stickers he got the more he wanted to wear them. We went for 6 stickers the first week so he got a treat every two days and then extended it. he had to wear his glasses for 15 minutes three times a day. By the end of the month he was wearing them without any incentives all day and loved them.

In the US they have these things called Croakies or Croakers; they're a soft stretchy headband that fits over the arms and around the back of the head. Do they exist here? I'd ask the eye doctor what you can do or if they have anything to help him keep them on. I had to wear glasses from quite an early age too, and my mother tied them around my head with a bit of sewing elastic! LOL

Its a really hard one because initially they may make his vision seem worse. His logic will be "but I can see better without them so why wear them...silly mummy" but it is important to persevere. What does he need them for. It might be that you can get away initially with having them for certain tasks. Most lazy eyes are because one or both eyes are quite long sighted and therefore the reading will be his hardest task. That is when he is likely to see clearly through the glasses and find things easier so maybe focus(excuse the pun) on wearing them for close up tasks and slowly build him up to wearing them more.

It does take eyes a bit of getting used to new glasses. jack has to wear glasses to correct his lazy eye and we picked them up wednesday. he likes wearing them and says he looks spunky...which he does

BUT....

he takes them off after about a minute! everytime i put them back on him and explain he has to wear them to fix his eyes, he takes them back off again after a couple of minutes

how can i get him to keep them on and get used to them????   i've started wearing my glasses around home, but that's really hard because they are scratched to buggery
