I read on a website that its caused by over active oil glands under the skin and it causes the skin to like crust over..

The website I read said to use almond or olive oil in the hair to soften it and then get it off the scalp and then shampoo regularly to keep it at bay... it's worked for us, once I got it off Daniel only has a couple of small spots where he has it now, whereas before it was really thick and covered half his head. We just put a lil shampoo in his hair every couple of days to keep it away. If the oil glands can "breathe" then it stops the cap forming.

Sometimes that takes 3mos to 2yrs. Usually a bit of oil is the best way, and even brushing with a baby brush is really good cause it stimulates the baby's own body oils. You can often pick it off when it gets thick, with a baby comb (don't scratch the baby though lol!). But it's just cosmetic and it's fine to leave on.
