as well as cooking meals, one thing i found hard to organise was a decent lunch for me - if she is breastfeeding it is really important to have healthy food regularly, but it was nearly impossible to find the time to make that! so dropping off a salad roll and some drink would be a great idea as well.

Since she's already a parent, she'll probably have a good idea of what she'd find helpful or not.  But I second the putting meals in their freezer idea... cooking just doesn't happen with a newborn, but dag nab it she'll still need to eat! 

Housework help is a great idea too, if she's OK about someone else doing that.  If she does have that C/S, running errands for her could be a big help.  Good on you for saving up your leave for this - what an awesome thing to do!

That's so cool. You might want to ask her. Calling in for short periods every now and then helps (if she's the type that likes a call first, do that). Just breeze in, ask if she wants a coffee and look around for any dishes/washing that could do with a help. Calling up a week later and asking if the 2yo might like to go to the park with you etc will give her a huge break as well, but it's especially nice to let her know what time to expect you guys back. I had a C-section and this is what I would have appreciated (didn't get though BOO! )

cook them lots of casseroles to put in the freezer and help with housework.

Hi,

My brother & SIL are expecting their #2 in October, possibly by c-section & DH & I will be looking after #1 (2yrs) while SIL is in hospital.

I've got enough annual leave to take some time off either side of the birth and I've been wondering what else I could do to help them out. As we are still TTC for our #1, I'm not sure what will be the most help to them.
