With my first son, many years ago, I would breastfeed him and then whip my nipple out and pop the bottle in. After a couple of time doing that he took the bottle no worrys.   I dont know what the current train of thought is on that now though ...

just been speaking to a plunket nurse re: suggesstions for bottle feeding and she also suggested giving her the bottle while she was sleepy. Another suggestion was when the bottle is in her mouth try touching underneath her chin to get her to suck. She also said you could try giving her the bottle half way through a feed.

We have success with avnet, Lily has taken it easiy from the beginning.

Do you do a dream feed? Getting them to suck whent hey are half asleep (or totally asleep in some cases) is a tricky way of getting the sucking rflex to work for you.

we try the bottle before i give him and milk from me and we have even tried going half day with out a feed he is just too determined. Thats what mine does once he has had enough or if he's not hungry.
You have probably already tried this but you could try giving half a feed and then giving the bottle when he is not quite so hungry and maybe more open to trying a bottle. Don't have any other suggestions sorry.

As I had been pre-warned because of my sister-in-laws experience I introduced a bottle at a week old and would give him expressed milk every couple of days, good job really as I have had to stop breastfeeding and don't know what I would have done if he hadn't took a bottle.

I use the avent teats and didn't have any trouble but then I also have a very sucky baby who didn't seem to mind changing between boob bottle and dummy.

hi,
My sister in law had this problem with her daughter and was never able to introduce a bottle (sorry probably not the news you wanted). Her daughter would scream the minute she saw a bottle, everybody tried feeding her and she tried all different bottles and teats. In the end they found a special cup that can be used from an early age and she took that.

Here is a link to the cup, she is in England so am not sure whether this would be available out here.

I am also having the same problem with Ella- I am due to start part-time work next Wed and she still won't take a bottle.

I found that doing the bottle once each day at the same time (no matter whether I was working or not) to be helpful, it meant that it was regular. In saying that, it did (almost every time) end up being a battle that I just had to persevere with. It eventually became 'easy' at 6 months (started at 4 weeks). At the time, it was VERY stressful and I have decided not to go back to work so soon next time, but has been worth it in the long run...

Also, it seemed to make no difference who tried to give it to her. I did find rocking her gently and humming to her while trying to give the bottle sort of helped.

i have about 5 different ones from cheap to expensive, i have the tommee tippee one that the teat was like a mummies nipple and he use to take that but stopped when he went back into hospital and now we cant get him started again.........i have flat ones , long ones and even different coloured, and i have small and long bottles. Its becoming very expensive. i cant say that i have tried the avent one yet though. one way my lactaton consultant advised me is to NOT hold him like he s having a BF, but to sit him facing out, against your tummy like he's sitting on your knee watching tele or something. Works for my mum with my wee lady who won't take a bottle, but My DH can't get her to take it no matter want (babies sense the fear, lol, I mean the frustration). See if you can talk to a lactation consultant, they are full of good helpful ideas. How many different bottles have you tried? Hi
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get my boy onto a bottlle? I have tried everything i have heard and read but still no luck, and i realllly need to go back to work. I still want to give him breast milk and still breast feed when im with him.
