they may do wees or poos but if have something down to catch it you'll be fine. and i have two boys and their wees never went all over the place and i have heard of girls who make wee fountains, so gender wont make a difference.

Difficult to say. Depends on their neck muscles. McKayla had really good head control at birth so from the beginning. Yep that's like my girls too, Emma. Briona wasn't even given tummy time before 3mos because it seemed she wouldn't have any feed left if I did that But then crawled at 5 1/2 mos. Hannah didn't like tummy time at all; crawled at 10mos (and only for 3 weeks - preferred walking). Jeremy is 3 months and I hardly ever give him tummy time cos he will be sick within a minute (one of the many joys of reflux)....but my DD loved it and she was a few weeks old when we started with her.
I have been told not to worry too much about DS not getting much TT, even though it is important its not a major if they don't get heaps of time on their tummy.

I used to put a change mat with a muslin cloth over it with the gremlins for nappy off time. It was summer so they spent most of their play time nappy free.

I did tummy time with them from a week old, 5 or so mins after every feed. PLunket recommend after feeds as it helps them to bring up wind. I put Caleb on a change mat on the floor in front of the heater with a cloth nappy on top of the change mat. He wees every time but the mat or nappy catches it. Yip, the nappy off thing can be a bit messy at times Brenna stills wees (and poos) when it's off I've goto be quick now that she's crawling or it can end up everywhere lol!

I started tummy time from really early. It was only for short times to begin with. tummy time is very important so make sure you give it to them every play time but as soon as they start grizzling you can turn them over they will get used to it. You can also have tummy time with them on your chest and little babies can like that more.

Just put a towel on the floor for no nappy time! Isla still pees when her nappy is off,...but its worse now cos she can crawl off the towel now! Hehe!

Tummy time is any postion bubs is on their belly, so it doesnt actually have to be them lying on the floor. Lie on the floor and have bubs belly to belly with you,...great for dads to do too,...or have bubs lie on your legs when you sitting down.Or lie bubs on the ground and lie down on the ground next to them so you looking at each other. I have wondered about no nappy time too!

I had Coopers playmat out at his last awake time. I put him on his back for a while first (so he could wake up properly!) then on to his tummy. He didn't seem to mind it too much. He kind of flipped back over onto his back at one stage which gave him a fright!

Don't they wee or poo? And wouldn't it go everywhere? Especially with little boys? (and that's the sort I'm having!!).

So how does it work, what do you do?

I try to remember to give Daniel some tummy time at each awake time during the day. I put him on his tummy and as soon as he starts to show signs of not liking it I flip him over. But.... if they don't like it, don't push it because it'll come in time. Just try and when they dislike it, roll them back. I know Plunket pushes this like crazy but IMO when they do it is not as important as they imply.

ETA: We could never give Briona tummy time because she was so spilly (reflux). She spent most of her three months in a bouncinette instead of on the floor, but it didn't hinder her at all; she was crawling at 5 1/2 mos

yeah now is a good time! Like shell said, before a feed, or I used to do it between feeds. Give one side, change nappy & leave off for a few minutes & lay them on their tummy, then put nappy on & feed the other side. Also gives them time to bring their wind up between feeds.

I started tummy time as soon as I got home and already Bella has a really strong neck and is starting to lift her head up. I usually do it BEFORE I feed her (otherwise she is too dopey/sleepy and just face plants into the floor!). I do it for 5 mins first thing in the morning, when I get her up and change her, and then another 5 mins at night before her bath. I also incorporate 'nappy off' time at the same time...
